Academic Advisement

Each student is assigned an academic advisor who will advise him/her concerning courses needed to complete a program of study. Students and advisors are responsible for monitoring appropriate courses to ensure that required courses are taken in the proper sequence. Each quarter, students should be diligent about checking courses they register for against their required programs of study to assure they remain on target for graduation.

Developmental Studies

Developmental studies courses are designed to help students review reading, writing, and mathematical competencies that they may not have used for a while or to learn competencies that will allow them to be successful in upper-level course work. Developmental studies course credits do not apply toward the total credit hours required in a certificate, diploma, or degree program.

Diploma to Degree

If a student desires to transfer from diploma status to degree status, he/she needs to consult with his/her program advisor, meet the requirements for transfer, and complete the Change of Major form. Students should always discuss program changes with their financial aid advisor.

Grade Appeal

If a student receives a course grade which he or she believes is incorrect, the first step is for the student to discuss the disagreement with the instructor. If an agreement cannot be reached, the student then addresses an appeal to the appropriate Director of Instruction who will examine the facts and notify the student of the results within two days of decision. If the student is not satisfied with the decision of the Director of Instruction, he or she may direct a written appeal to the Vice President of Instruction for resolution; a resolution will be rendered within two days of the decision. The decision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs is final.

Incomplete Grade

Students who have extreme hardships or verifiable extenuating circumstances may be assigned an “I” grade and given additional time to complete course work. This is at the discretion of the instructor. Students who need additional time to complete course work must communicate with their instructor prior to the end of the quarter. Students have until the end of the next quarter to complete the work. If the incomplete work is not completed by the end of the following quarter, the grade converts to an F.
