Flint River Technical College held its Commencement Exercises for Degree, Diploma, and GED graduates on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Thomaston-Upson Civic Center.
Approximately 300 graduates were recognized for their achievements with the presentation of an official 2009 Flint River Technical College award.
The ceremony opened with a welcome and introduction by Mr. Robert Patrick, Chairperson for the Flint River Technical College Local Board of Directors. The National Anthem was sang Ms. Cheryl Gilbert followed by the invocation given by Mr. Dennis Collier, a graduate of the Air Conditioning Technology program. The Challenge was given by Ms. Linda Stapleton, the 2009 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership winner.
Dr. Kathy S. Love, President of Savannah Technical College, was the 2009 Commencement Speaker. She praised each graduate for their accomplishment and wished them much success in the future.
Miss Caley Anderson presented the Williams L. Anderson Memorial Award to Ms. Tammy L. Horton of Woodland. The award was presented to Ms. Horton for her outstanding academic and work ethic qualities.
The program concluded with the conferring of the graduates and the grand evening was concluded with inspirational remarks given by Acting President Jim Wheeless.
