Linda Stapleton, an Accounting student at Flint River Technical College, was named the 2009 winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) award.

GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia, honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students.

Local GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s 33 technical colleges as well as the four Board of Regents colleges with technical education divisions.

The award was presented at the Thomaston-Upson Rotary Club GOAL Recognition Luncheon on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Flint River Technical College Community Development Center.  The announcement was made by Mr. Steve Cromer, Dean for Academic Affairs at Flint River Technical College.  The other GOAL finalists were Rebecca Allen, Willie Dawson, Janice Jordan and Michael Newman

Ms. Stapleton will now proceed to consortia preliminary judging.  If chosen as one of the 12 finalists, two from each consortium, then Linda will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Atlanta in May where, for two-days, she will compete with GOAL finalists from the other state technical college campuses.  A panel of leaders from the business, industry and government sectors will interview them and choose one to be the state’s 2009 GOAL winner and the recipient of the GOAL medallion.

The Technical College System of Georgia sponsors the GOAL program state wide.  At the local level, the program is sponsored by the Bank of Upson, Bryan Oglesby, Colony Bank, Griffin Area Employer Committee, Thomaston-Upson Rotary Club, United Bank, Upson EMC, West Central GA Bank, Flint River Technical College National Technical Honor Society, Student Leadership Council and Skills USA.
