Greg O'Neal Chosen as the Flint River Technical College 2008-2009 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year

Greg O'Neal , 2008-2009 Flint River Technical College Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year Winner.

Greg O’Neal has been chosen as the Flint River Technical College 2008-2009 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year.  Mr. O’Neal is the psychology instructor in the Arts and Sciences program at the College.

Mr. O’Neal was nominated by his peers, and through a competitive interview process, was selected as the Flint River Technical College Instructor of the Year. The title of Instructor of the Year qualifies him as a nominee for the Technical College System of Georgia’s Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction. 

This award honors technical education’s most outstanding instructors. The award is a statewide recognition program designed to honor technical college instructors who make significant contributions in technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the Rick Perkins Award was renamed in memory and honor of Thomas “Rick” Perkins who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death.

Mr. O’Neal holds a B.S. in Psychology and a M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia. He has also completed 40-quarter hours of additional graduate work in Counseling Psychology at Columbus State University.

A native of Upson County, Mr. O’Neal has been the psychology instructor at Flint River Technical College since July, 2002. Greg is a former student of Flint River Technical College where he studied Computer Information Systems.  During this time, he was accepted into the National Technical Honor Society.

The first competition among instructors occurred at the consortia level in July where a consortia winner was selected. Final state-level judging will take place September 9th -11th at the Annual Lighthouse Banquet in Augusta where the state-wide winner will be chosen as Georgia’s Technical College System’s Instructor of the Year.
