Effective July 1, a new bill will remove restrictions on HOPE cap hours earned through the dual enrollment program for high school students taking college courses at Flint River Technical College.

“We are grateful for the new changes in HOPE.  This will encourage high school students to dually enroll with Flint River Technical College plus provide them with a jumpstart towards their college credits,” says Jim Wheeless, Vice President for Student Affairs.

Prior to this legislation any hours taken by dual enrollment high school students counted toward the student’s HOPE credit hour limitation.  Now, students do not have to worry about using their HOPE funds before they make firm decisions regarding their postsecondary education plans.

“We continually strive to expose high school students to the value of technical education and foresee that this change in legislation will increase the number of high school students enrolled at Flint River Technical College.  Hopefully, this will help them make decisions regarding future career goals,” comments Flint River Technical College President Kathy Love.

During the 2007-2008 school year, there were 119 students dually enrolled at Flint River Technical College.
