Donna Thomas, a Cosmetology student at Flint River Technical College, was named the 2008 winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) award.  The award was presented at the Thomaston-Upson Rotary Club GOAL Recognition Luncheon on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Flint River Technical College Community Development Center.  The announcement was made by Ms. Kathy Love, President of Flint River Technical College.  The other GOAL finalists were John Childree, Stephanie Martin, and Lisa Wainwright

Donna Thomas will receive a three day trip to Atlanta in May.  She will compete against students from 33 other technical colleges in Georgia for the title of State GOAL Winner, the GOAL medallion, and the grand prize of a new automobile.

The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education sponsors the GOAL program state wide.  At the local level, the program is sponsored by the Bank of Upson, Colony Bank, United Bank, West Central Bank, Thomaston-Upson Rotary Club, Upson EMC, Griffin Area Personnel Association, Flint River Technical College National Technical Honor Society, Phi Beta Lambda, Student Leadership Council and Skills USA.

The GOAL program was the first state wide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in technical colleges.
