Flint River Technical College Adult Education held the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Service Delivery Area (SDA) competition on December 7, 2007.  Flint River Technical College’s SDA includes Talbot, Taylor and Upson County.  EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult literacy programs.  This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.   The criteria that the nominating instructor uses in selecting EAGLE students are character, attitude, attendance, leadership, personal appearance and involvement in community activities. Winners from the county competition move on to compete against winners from other counties within the SDA.  LaWanda Roundtree, winner from the SDA competition, will receive an all expenses paid trip to the EAGLE Leadership Institute in Atlanta which will be held on February 13-15, 2008. The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) through its Office of Adult Literacy (OAL) sponsors the annual EAGLE Leadership Institute. The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult literacy classes and programs.
