Melissa Gordon, an instructor in the Adult Education program, has been chosen as the Flint River Technical College 2007-2008 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year.
Ms. Gordon was nominated by her peers as the winner of the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction. This award honors technical education’s most outstanding instructors. The award is a statewide recognition program designed to honor technical college instructors who make significant contributions in technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the Rick Perkins Award was renamed in memory and honor of Thomas “Rick” Perkins who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death.
The first competition among instructors will occur at the consortia level where a consortia winner will be selected. Final state-level judging will take place in September at the Annual Lighthouse Banquet in Augusta where the state-wide winner will be chosen as Georgia’s Technical College System’s Instructor of the Year.
