Traveling, working outdoors, and working with electrical equipment are some of the components for a great new career opportunity in the new Apprentice Lineworker program offered at Flint River Technical College. The College will start the new program in May.
“This is a win-win opportunity for the students, the College, and the industry. With combined efforts, we can help prepare and employ trained individuals in a rewarding field,” comments John Brodnax, General Manager for Upson EMC. Apprentice lineworkers learn to build and maintain the electrical power line systems. Lineworkers work in an industry that builds the entire product from start to finish. An apprentice will learn and master many skills and will have the satisfaction of working with a team to complete a project.
“We are grateful for the continued partnership with the utility companies in order to train individuals for the future,” said Kathy S. Love, President of Flint River Technical College.
The six-month program includes General Mathematics, Industrial Safety Procedures, Electricity Principles, Fundamental of Commercial Truck Driving, Basic Operations of Commercial Straight Truck and Passenger Driving, and Basic Lineworkers Occupational Skills for a total of 26 credit hours.
