A Program of
 Five Steps to Choosing Safe and Healthy Child Care

STEP 1 – LOOK

Visit several different child care programs before you decide which one is best for your family.  Look for:

    • Children are supervised at all times, even during naptime.
    • Caregivers and children wash their hands often, especially before and after eating, and after using the bathroom or changing diapers.

STEP 2 – CHECK

    • Toxic substances like cleaning supplies and pest killers are kept away from children.
    • First aid kits are available.
    • Posting of practice fire drills once every month is available.
    • Safe playground equipment has no sharp edges and is kept in good shape.
    • Medication is out of reach of children.

STEP 3 – COUNT 

            Count the number of adults and number of children they each will be supervising.  Be certain there are enough adults to supervise all of the different activities that are planned.

             STEP 4 – ASK

    • About the training and experience of all adults who will be with your children.
    • About first aid and rescue breathing training.
    • About discipline policies to make sure they are compatible with your philosophy.
    • About children being able to choose among activities.
    • About caregiver’s knowledge of child development.
    • If all caregivers have gone through a background check.

Seguro y Saludable

PASO 1 – MIRE

Visite diferentes programas que dan cuidado infantil antes de decidir cual es el mejor para su familia. Busque  :

Que los niños sean supervisados todo el tiempo, inclusive cuando estén durmiendo la siesta.

Que los asistentes y niños se laven las manos a menudo, especialmente antes y después de comer, y después de usar el baño o cambiado pañales.

PASO 2 – REVISE

Que substancias tóxicas como suplementos de limpieza y pesticidas estén alejados de los niños.

Que un botiquín de primeros auxilios este disponible.

Que se destine prácticas de simulacros de incendio una vez al mes.

Que el equipamiento de la zona de juegos sea seguro, sin filos cortantes y mantenido en buen estado.

Que las medicinas estén fuera del alcance de los niños.

PASO 3 – CUENTE

Cuente el número de adultos y el número de niños y cuantos niños un adulto supervisar«.

Este seguro que hayan suficientes adultos para supervisar todas las diferentes actividades que esten planeadas.

PASO 4 – PREGUNTE

Acerca de la experiencia y entrenamiento de todos los adultos que estarán con su niño o sus niños.

Acerca del entrenamiento en primeros auxilios y rescate con respiración artificial.

Acerca de las políticas de disciplina para que este seguro que ellas son compatibles con su filosofía.

Si sus niños podrán escoger entre diferentes actividades.

Acerca de los conocimientos del personal que asiste a los niños en desarrollo infantil.

Si todos los empleados han pasado por un control de registro criminal.
