Admissions
Regular Admission
Regular admission of students to a credit program is contingent upon meeting statewide minimum placement test score requirements and proper completion of application, assessment, and placement procedures. Also, some programs require a screening selection process where only a limited number of students can be admitted due to program restrictions.
Please note that a selected number of certificate programs do NOT require placement testing. Admission score requirement information sheets are available in the Admissions Office, Room A500.
Provisional Admission
Provisional admission to a credit program may be granted to qualified students not meeting the regular admission requirements for their desired program of study. Provisionally admitted students whose English, math, and/or reading achievement levels do not meet regular admission requirements are required to enroll in learning support courses approved by the State Board of Technical and Adult Education.
Provisionally admitted students are allowed to take learning support courses and certain occupational courses based upon program-specific standards and course pre/co requisite requirements. The student’s advisor will assist the student in choosing permissible coursework. Priority will be given to completing learning support course work within the student’s first three quarters. Attainment of regular admission scores in all program required areas must be met in order to earn regu-lar admission status.
Learning Support Admission
Learning support admission is granted to students who do not meet the regular or provisional admission requirements in reading, writing, and math. Students in this category may only enroll in learning support until he or she achieves regular or provisional status. Learning Support students are not permitted to receive federal financial aid but may receive the HOPE grant if eligible. Attainment of regular admission scores in all program required areas must be met in order to earn regular admission status.
Students who score below minimum cut scores in math, reading, and writing will be referred to Adult Education for learning enhancement.

If a special admit student decides to pursue a credit program, they must complete the official admission process and be formally admitted to a program of study. In addition to meeting general requirements, the applicant must meet any course prerequisite. The student can receive credit for an unlimited number of courses, but may transfer only 25 credit hours into a specific program for award seeking purposes. Students in the Special Admission category are NOT eligible to receive any type of financial aid.
Students from other colleges who want to take courses at Flint River Technical College as a Transient student must submit the following:
It is the transient student’s responsibility to have their grade(s) sent back to their home school by whatever method is approved by that institution.
Flint River Technical College students wanting to take a course at another institution but do not wish to transfer to that institution will need to submit a Transient Request Form to the Registrar’s Office or Office of Student Affairs. Transient permission ensures the course taken will transfer back to Flint River Technical College and the courses will be used in the student’s program of study. Students will be granted permission only after successfully completing one quarter of study at Flint River Technical College.
In order for a student to be granted transient permission, the following criteria must be met:

Courses taken at another institution with transient permis-sion are considered transfer credit. A grade of “C” or better is required for classes to transfer. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they have not exceeded the 25% residence requirement (refer to the Flint River Technical College handbook for details about this graduation requirement).
Transient permission is granted only if the above requirements are met and may have additional stipulations (i.e., advisor approval for certain programs). Transient permission is a decision of the College and may not be granted at the institution’s discretion, even if all the above criteria are met.

It may be necessary to provide the Registrar with course descriptions. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain any additional information requested by the Registrar. Medical courses and some others have a transfer life of five (5) years. Once the transcript is evaluated, a letter is mailed to the student. The credits are posted to the stu-dent’s academic record using a grade of TR which is not calcu-lated into the grade point average.
Students must complete at least 25% of their credit hours at Flint River Technical College in order to be awarded a degree, diploma, or certificate from Flint River Technical College. Should a student receive advanced standing through transfer of credit, credit by exemption, credit by experience, or articulation, the student must still complete at least 25% of the credit hours of the re-quired curriculum for graduation in residence at Flint River Technical College. When the student has attended two or more Georgia technical colleges, the award is made by the College from which the student has earned the larger number of credit hours.
